Jump Starts As Well As Deliveries

Everything You Need to Know

At Richmond Taxi, we've done our best to create a website that anticipates and satisfies our customers' needs. With that goal in mind, we've compiled a list of frequently asked questions. If you do not find an answer to your question here, contact us at 604‑272‑1111 .

Q. After calling dispatch, how long will it take for a cab to pick me up?

We should be there in 5 to 10 minutes.

Q. Why does getting a taxi take longer at certain times of day?

Peak periods are often from 7:30 AM – 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, and the number of taxi requests goes up during this time.

Q. Can I ask my driver to switch radio stations or open the window?

Of course. The driver is there to serve you, the customer, and to make your ride comfortable. Your requests regarding radio stations, heat, air conditioning, windows, seat adjustments or route to your destination will be followed.

Q. Are drivers able to speak on the phone while driving?

Richmond Taxi Co. policy as well as BC law does not permit drivers to use cell phones. Therefore, we restrict all drivers from using the phone while driving.

Q. I have lost something in one of your cabs. How can I check if it has been recovered?

Please call our dispatcher at 604‑272‑1111 . Noting the cab number, time of day and/or pick-up destination will be helpful in seeking out your item.

Q. Is using a credit card acceptable for all types of rides and situations?

Richmond Taxi accepts all major credit cards and of course cash, and debit is also available in every vehicle. It is up to the customer to determine which method is most convenient for them.

Q. What are the qualifications of your drivers?

Each of our drivers must have the Taxi-Host Level I and II or Taxi-Host Pro program as mandated by the Passenger Transportation Board and Canadian Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE). The program teaches drivers not only the fundamentals of finesse behind driving a cab, but also about how to properly tend to elderly and disabled passengers. All drivers are also required to pass a criminal record check through our local police in order to receive the required city-issued Chauffeurs Permit. Finally, all operators are taught and tested on the geography of the Lower Mainland and its neighbourhoods, and the fastest routes to get to all destinations.

Q. What is Pre-Booked Taxi Service?

There’s no need to wait until the last minute to call a taxi. You can book your ride ahead of time, and we'll be there to pick you up on schedule. We can book cab rides in advance for anytime except New Year's Eve, during severe weather conditions, or unforeseen circumstances like public transit break-downs.

Please note that pre-booking does not guarantee a taxi. It simply allows you to place your request at a more convenient time. Your taxi will likely be on time during non-peak hours, but during peak hours, the waits can range from 5 – 30 minutes depending on conditions.

Q. What are your rates?

Initial Flag: $3.50

Waiting Time: $36.22 /hr

All of the cargo meter rates are plus $10

Q. How many people can taxis carry?

All cabs have at least 4 seatbelts and are able to carry 4 passengers in addition to the driver. Our wheelchair-accessible vans carry one wheelchair and up to 4 additional passengers. Other vans carry up to 6 passengers.

Q. Do you have jump start or courier service?

Yes, we offer both jump start and courier service. We can offer jump starts and deliver packages and other items just as easily as we deliver people. Save yourself time by calling us to pick up and deliver your parcel, liquor, food, or other items for a minimum rate of $20 or what is on the meter, whichever is greater.
