Everything You Need to Know

At Richmond Taxi, we've done our best to create a web site that anticipates and satisfies our customers' needs. With that goal in mind, we've compiled a list of frequently asked questions. If you do not find an answer to your question here, contact us at 604-272-1111.

Q. After calling dispatch, how long will it take for a cab to pick me up?
A. We should be there in 5 to 10 minutes.

Q. How much is it going to cost me to take a cab?
A. The charge is calculated as the meter rate starts at $3.35 for the first 52.01 meters, then $0.10 for each additional 52.01 meters or fraction thereof, and $0.10 for each consecutive 10.47 seconds. Wait time is charged at $34.40/hour.

Q. Can I ask my driver to switch radio stations or open the window?
A. Of course. The driver is there to serve you, the customer, and to make your ride comfortable. Your requests regarding radio stations, heat, air conditioning, windows, seat adjustments or route to your destination will be followed.

Q. Are drivers able to speak on the phone while driving?
A. Due to the customer’s safety, the Richmond Taxi Co. policy as well as B.C. law does not permit drivers to use cell phones. Therefore, we restrict all drivers from using the phone while driving.

Q. I have lost something in one of your cabs. How can I check if it has been recovered?
A. Please call our corporate offices at 604-272-1111. Noting the cab number, time of day and/or pick-up destination will be helpful in seeking out your item.

Q. What are the qualifications of your drivers?
A. Each of our drivers has taken the Taxi-Host Level I and II or Taxi-Host Pro program from the Justice Institute of B.C. The program teaches drivers not only the fundamentals of finesse behind driving a cab, but also about how to properly tend to elderly and disabled passengers. All drivers are also required to pass a Richmond Police background check in order to receive the required city-issued Chauffeurs Permit. Finally, all operators are taught and tested on the geography of the Lower Mainland and its neighbourhoods, and the fastest routes to get to all destinations.

Q. Is using a credit card acceptable for all types of rides and situations?
A. Richmond Taxi accepts all major credit cards and of course cash, and it is up to the customer to determine which method is most convenient for them.

Q. How many people can taxis carry?
A. Cars have 4 seat belts, and thus cars are able to carry 4 passengers. Our vans accommodate up to 6 passengers. Our W/C vans can carry a wheelchair passenger and up to 4 companions at the same time.
